While Nintendo has yet to announce an official release date for the Nintendo Switch 2, rumors suggest the new console could launch as early as June 2025. First teased in January, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be fully unveiled at the upcoming Nintendo Direct event on April 2.
Nintendo is hosting hands-on experience days globally from April through June 2025, with the UK event taking place at Excel London on April 11-13.

Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has hinted the console could be more affordable than initially feared, mentioning “affordability that our customers expect” despite inflation and tariff concerns.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will likely cost at least as much as the current Nintendo Switch OLED (£309.99). Analysts predict a price around $400 (£330), while an Italian retailer recently listed it at €389.99 (£325). A reported Costco Canada internal listing showed a placeholder price of CAD 499.99.

Nintendo’s January reveal showed a more mature design compared to the original’s colorful look. The console is noticeably larger with bigger Joy-Cons and a display, reportedly featuring an 8.4-inch screen.
The most significant change appears to be the Joy-Cons, which now connect magnetically instead of using rails. This could potentially solve the Joy-Con drift issue. There’s also a new square button on the right Joy-Con, and the trailer suggested mouse-like functionality, confirmed by recent patents.

The Switch 2 will likely use Nvidia’s Tegra T239 chip, significantly more powerful than the aging Tegra X1 in the current Switch. According to leaks, it features an Ampere GPU architecture using Samsung’s 8nm process with either 8GB, 12GB, or 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, making it roughly as powerful as a PlayStation 4 but running on a low-resolution, small screen, which makes it look good and run fast.
Demonstrations reportedly showed improved versions of Switch titles running at higher framerates and resolutions, with NVIDIA’s DLSS upscaling technology and ray tracing enabled.
Component leaks suggest 256GB of storage, 12GB of RAM, and HDMI 2.1 ports. An FCC filing revealed NFC support for Amiibos, dual USB-C charging ports, and at least Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.
