Three people were killed and 15 others injured in a mass shooting at an unsanctioned car show on Friday night in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Two 19-year-old men and one 16-year-old boy died in the incident at Young Park around 10:00 PM local time.
The Incident
Police Chief Jeremy Story explained that “an altercation between two groups of people escalated to gunfire between both groups.” Approximately 50-60 bullet shell casings were found at the scene, where about 200 people had gathered. The story noted there had been “ill will” between the groups prior to the event.
Victims and Medical Response
Those injured range from 16 to 36 years old, with seven patients transferred to El Paso, Texas for further treatment. Four victims have been treated and released, according to Fire Chief Michael Daniels.
Investigation Status
No arrests have been made yet, but authorities are “actively following multiple leads.” Police have requested witnesses to come forward with information or video footage. The FBI and ATF have joined local officials in responding to the shooting.
Official Responses
“Today we mourn a tragic, a senseless, a horrible event,” said Mayor Eric Enriquez. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has mobilized state resources to support local law enforcement and noted violent crime in Las Cruces has increased by 46 percent compared to last year.
The incident marks the 53rd mass shooting of 2025, according to the Gun Violence Archive. Las Cruces is located about 41 miles north of the US-Mexico border.
