While Nintendo has yet to announce an official release date for the Nintendo Switch 2, rumors suggest the new console could launch as early as June 2025. First teased in January, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be fully unveiled at the upcoming Nintendo Direct event on April 2.
Nintendo is hosting hands-on experience days globally from April through June 2025, with the UK event taking place at Excel London on April 11-13.
Nintendo Switch 2 Price: What Will It Cost?
Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has hinted the console could be more affordable than initially feared, mentioning “affordability that our customers expect” despite inflation and tariff concerns.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will likely cost at least as much as the current Nintendo Switch OLED (£309.99). Analysts predict a price around $400 (£330), while an Italian retailer recently listed it at €389.99 (£325). A reported Costco Canada internal listing showed a placeholder price of CAD 499.99.
Nintendo Switch 2 Design: What We Know From The Trailer

Nintendo’s January reveal showed a more mature design compared to the original’s colorful look. The console is noticeably larger with bigger Joy-Cons and a display, reportedly featuring an 8.4-inch screen.
The most significant change appears to be the Joy-Cons, which now connect magnetically instead of using rails. This could potentially solve the Joy-Con drift issue. There’s also a new square button on the right Joy-Con, and the trailer suggested mouse-like functionality, confirmed by recent patents.
The dock features a more streamlined design with rounded corners instead of the sharper edges found on the original.
Nintendo Switch 2 Specs: What’s Under The Hood?
The Switch 2 will likely use Nvidia’s Tegra T239 chip, significantly more powerful than the aging Tegra X1 in the current Switch. According to leaks, it features an Ampere GPU architecture using Samsung’s 8nm process with either 8GB, 12GB, or 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, making it roughly as powerful as a PlayStation 4 but running on a low-resolution, small screen, which makes it look good and run fast.
Demonstrations reportedly showed improved versions of Switch titles running at higher framerates and resolutions, with NVIDIA’s DLSS upscaling technology and ray tracing enabled.
Component leaks suggest 256GB of storage, 12GB of RAM, and HDMI 2.1 ports. An FCC filing revealed NFC support for Amiibos, dual USB-C charging ports, and at least Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.
Nintendo Switch 2 Games: What’s Coming At Launch?

Nintendo has only revealed one game so far – a new Mario Kart title supporting up to 24 players on wider tracks. Other potential launch titles include Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4, both scheduled for 2025. Also, the new Mario Odyssey, maybe?
Industry insiders speculate a new 3D Mario game could arrive in December, with third-party releases potentially including Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater. Take-Two CEO has hinted that GTA 6 might eventually come to the system.
Several indie developers have already announced titles, and Games Insider eXtas1S claims Bandai Namco plans to release Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero as a launch title, with Elden Ring and Tekken 8 potentially following later.
Nintendo Switch 2 Outlook: Evolution, Not Revolution
Nintendo’s approach with the Switch 2 appears to be “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” The larger display, improved Joy-Cons, and more powerful components address the main pain points of the current model.
With global hands-on events beginning in April and the full reveal scheduled for April 2, we won’t have to wait much longer for official details about this highly anticipated console.
